Bellefontaine standout Makayla Young garnered another big honor Sunday by winning the USA Girls Wrestling War of the Roses preseason national tournament in Indiana.
A sophomore, Young went undefeated at 94 pounds in the 16-and-under division wrestling for the Ohio Girls National Team. She did not give up a single point during the tournament.
The Chieftain pinned former a national placer in 30 seconds on her way to the title. Young placed seventh at Fargo Nationals during the summer to earn all-American status.
Young also wrestled up a weight class for the Ohio Girls National Dual team on Saturday and finished 2-3. Team Ohio placed third out of 17 teams.
Bellefontaine’s Chelsea Horsley also competed at War of the Roses and placed sixth at 112 pounds in the 16-and-under division.
