Bellefontaine’s girls swim team dominated its dual meet with visiting Kenton on Tuesday, winning 10 of the 11 events.
The Chiefs piled up 112 points to easily outdistance the Wildcats (39 points).
“This team is quickly showing depth and toughness,” said head coach Sharon Lewis. “I absolutely love watching them push through every finish no matter how tired they are, how hard practice may have been yesterday, or where they are finishing within the race. They are out to improve, to become better than themselves and that is going to take them so far. I am going to keep mixing it up and challenge our swimmers to work on all events so that we have every opportunity possible to succeed going into the end of the season.”
Winning relay teams for the Chiefs were the 200 medley relay of Morgan Henry, Sarah Starkey, Abby Kite and Sarah Fulmer, the 200 freestyle relay of Olivia Ullom, Chloe Reynolds, Maddi Jackson and Samantha Starkey and the 400 freestyle relay team of Fulmer, Kite, Samantha Starkey and Henry.
Winning individual events for the Chiefs were Samantha Starkey in the 200 freestyle, Kite in the 100 butterfly, Joslyn Robinson in the 200 individual medley, Henry in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Fulmer in the 100 freestyle and Sarah Starkey in the 500 freestyle.
Finishing in second for the Chieftain girls were the 400 freestyle B relay team of Ullom, Olivia Eader, Vivian Eader and Robinson, Kite in the 200 freestyle, Robinson in the 100 breaststroke, Fulmer in the 100 backstroke, Sarah Starkey in the 50 freestyle, Reynolds in the 100 freestyle and Jackson in the 500 freestyle.
In the boys meet Tuesday, Kenton won 86-69.
“While our boys did not outscore Kenton, they did show great strength and improvement,” said Lewis. “It’s hard to win dual meets when you are the smaller the team, but you can always work towards personal growth. These boys are starting to fit the pieces together and they are on their way to being a very competitive group. Six of our 12 boys are in their first year swimming for BHS and this is definitely an adjustment.”
Bellefontaine recorded relay wins with the 200 medley relay of Quinton Bible, Preston Henry, Jared Salyer and Christian Keene and the 400 freestyle relay of Keene, Lucas Harrington, Bible and Jared Salyer.
Salyer contributed first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke and Henry was first in the 100 breaststroke.
Keene was secnd in the 100 freestyle, Harrington was second in the 100 butterfly and also finishing second was the 200 freestyle relay team of Brandon Gamble, Henry, Jason Miller and Harrington.
