Bellefontaine City School District administration met Tuesday with the representatives of the Bellefontaine Education Association and the Ohio Association of Public School Employees to announce $1 million in permanent reductions that will be put in place next school year.
The school district’s budget has been stretched in recent years with flat-lined state funding, a loss in federal revenue coupled with rising expenses, officials said in a release and also have previously reported at recent board of education meetings.
The budget cuts include but are not limited to staffing at all levels, including reducing educational aide positions, a freeze of administrative salaries and absorbing other positions due to retirement and attrition. Building budget cuts of 10 percent are being considered, along with reductions to field trips, contracts with outside agencies and other programs.
“It’s important we are transparent with our staff, families and community and cognizant of the impact the reductions have on all” Superintendent Brad Hall said in the release.
