Allan “Al” L. Haerr, Sr., 78, of Lakeview, passed away Monday night, Dec. 9, 2019.
Al was born on Aug. 25, 1941 in Springfield, a son of the late Richard Bostick and Francis Haerr Bostick. On July 8, 1995, he married Ginny Milner Maddox and she preceded him in death on Nov. 17, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jeff Haerr.
Al is survived by five children, Robert Haerr of Springfield, Steve (Jodi) Haerr of Conover, James (Alice) Haerr of Urbana, Julie Murnahan of Lima, and Allan (Cynthia) Haerr of St. Paris; three step-children; Shawn (Kishya) Maddox of Springfield, Scott (Stacey) Maddox of San Antonio, Tex., and Shannon (Bill) Henderson of Bellefontaine; 23 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers; four sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
Al graduated from Springfield High School. He worked at International for 21 years and after moving to Indian Lake in 1979, also owned and operated several businesses. Al was very active as a first responder. He served as a Clark County Sheriff’s Deputy in the 1960s. After moving to Indian Lake, he became an active volunteer with Indian Lake EMS, where he was a former president, and Lakeview Fire Department where he retired as Assistant Chief. He worked for Lakeview Police Department where he served as police chief from 1986 to 1995 and again from 1997 to 1998. He was a member of Lakeview Firemen’s Club, former member of Indian Lake Eagles and was a HAM operator.
Funeral services begin at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview, with visitation from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Burial is in Highland Memorial Cemetery, West Liberty.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Al’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Lakeview Firemen’s Club.
