Damon Lee Defibaugh, 35, of Lakeview, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, at his home.
Damon was born in Kenton at Hardin Memorial Hospital on Nov. 4, 1984, the son of Daniel Lee Defibaugh and Cynthia Ann (Freistuhler) Defibaugh, the day after their first anniversary. He married Rachel Elizabeth Stamford on Oct. 7, 2006, at Lewistown-Trinity United Methodist Church by Pastor Barry Baughman. Together they have a son, Dante Lee, age three and ten months, whom he cherished. They survive along with a maternal aunt, Maureena (Steve) Strauser; and two paternal aunts, Mary Ann Burden and Angie (Jim) Rafac; and his beloved cat, Drake.
Damon was a 2003 graduate of Indian Lake Local Schools and an electronics graduate of the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center. He went on to graduate from ITT Technical School with a degree in Electronic Engineering, all while being a full-time student and working full-time. He was employed by Veeam Software out of their Columbus office, and was their Enterprise Support Engineer handling clients from all over the globe.
Damon was a well-known bagpiper and at one time, the youngest member of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Pipe and Drum. He piped for the 124th General Assembly of the Ohio Senate. He was previously a firefighter with the Indian Joint Fire District where he served with his dad. He was a member of the Lewistown-Trinity United Methodist Church in Lewistown, where he was their sound technician for many years for their contemporary worship service.
Damon loved music and performed in OMEA contests while in school for clarinet. He loved camping, hiking, hunting with his dad, computer gaming and was an excellent debater. He liked to DJ on the side. He was a HAM Operator II, call sign KD8NDW. He had a wonderful wit and a heart of gold if you were in need. His maternal grandmother had him working, promoting Indian Lake through the Chamber office, by the time he was four years old.
Damon was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Edwin “Eddie” Freistuhler and Natalie (Reedy) Freistuhler; paternal grandparents Robert “Bob” Defibaugh and Mary (Westfall) Defibaugh; and his paternal uncle, Robert “Bobby” Defibaugh.
Visitation is Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview, with the funeral at the same location at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019. Pastor Barry Baughman officiates. Burial will be at Huntsville Cemetery next to his maternal grandparents.
