Russells Point resident Brad Smith and Columbus resident Sheldon Shobe sat side-by-side Friday in a pew at Calvary Baptist Church with fully-loaded backpacks next to them and wearing enthusiastic smiles as they prepared for adventure that awaits them in the upcoming week.
They were gathered with 18 others at the 1140 Rush Ave. church for a prayer session prior to their trek to Burkina Faso for a short-term missions trip through the Bellefontaine-based non-profit organization Kingdom Investment International. The group of many local individuals, along with a few participants from other states, were set to board a plane later in the day Friday from Detroit to Paris, and then make their way to the Western African nation this weekend.
“This is my first missions trip, and we can’t wait to see what this week holds and what God has in store for us,” said Smith, an employee of Honda of America Mfg. in Marysville. “I’m going to be working in the eye care clinics there, and also with well-drilling. Others in our team will be involved in a number of other projects as well.”
