The Holland Theatre is a special place to Bellefontaine Realtor Dava Royer.
She is a long-time member of its board and is chair of the Fundraising Committee. She has seen a number of improvements at the theater — the only Dutch-style atmospheric theater in the United States — including installation of a new HVAC system, and she looks forward to seeing construction begin in the next two years on complete restoration of the auditorium.
So, she followed her heart and created a collage based around the theater, using photos and newspaper clippings with a collage medium to keep it all in place with some various textured papers provided by local artist Annie King, who helped her decide what to do. Giving back to the Holland is also Royer’s way of honoring the memory of her mother, the late Jean Royer, who was born the same year the Holland was built and who enjoyed attending events at the theater as she was growing up in Bellefontaine.
“I have no formal art training other than Mrs. Shawn and Mr. Smith in elementary school,” said the lifelong Bellefontaine resident, who also has a home at The Villages, Fla., where she continues her hobbies of biking, golfing and playing bridge, along with traveling.
