A series of unfortunate events that began with a breakdown on a major highway as a hurricane was bearing down on Florida and culminated with a tangle of red tape has slowed the progress of a mobile medical clinic, but it is expected to make landfall in Haiti this week.
After eight months of planning capped off with a series of unfortunate events, the mobile medical clinic created by the local Women Arise ministry was lifted onto a boat in Miami, Florida, on Jan. 4 and will be unloaded in Haiti this year to help residents hard hit by the 2016 storm Hurricane Matthew and the more recent but less severe Hurricane Irma. “It’s on the boat now and scheduled to be on the road in Haiti by Jan. 19,” Pastor Shelley Stephenson of Christ Covenant Church and the local Women Arise ministry, said. “It’s ended up being an eight-month journey, but the bus is on its way, full of all the supplies we need to run a full-service mobile medical clinic”
While the bus is ready to distribute medication to the residents of the storm-ravaged Caribbean island nation, the group must still raise $3,000 to $4,000 to stock it with medication, including antibiotics and dewormers, which is expected to last three to four months and serve three or four Haitian villages.
