Discovery Riders is making preparations for its annual fundraiser gala — A Night to Remember — slated for Saturday, Oct. 16, to support children and adults enrolled in the non-profit organization’s equine-assisted activities and therapies.
While the fundraiser has taken place for more than a decade, this will be the first year for the event to take place at the Linda Laine Hauck Equestrian Center, located at 1797 E. State Route 47, Bellefontaine, Executive Director Emily Hale noted.
Each year, A Night to Remember features various entertainment, and this year, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra is slated to perform at the gala, which runs from 5 to 9 p.m.
“We are very excited to have such award-winning entertainment at our fundraiser.
Attendees can expect exceptional music from the orchestra’s woodwind and string quartets,” said Hale, noting that a band from Nashville played at the fundraiser during 2019.
Following the performance, a live auction will take place with items donated by Logan County businesses. Attendees can expect auction items to include tickets to sporting events, firearms, vacations, along with experiences and kids programs.
“Over the years, we have continued to receive tremendous community support for our agency,” Hale said. “Local businesses have contributed to auction and raffle items and corporate event sponsors.”
Discovery Riders Inc. has been providing equine-assisted activities and therapies to individuals with special needs from several Central Ohio counties for more than 20 years.
Both children and adults benefit from therapeutic riding in many ways, such as improving strength, coordination, balance, confidence, patience and ability to follow directions. Hale related that approximately 100 students are served annually, and “we expect our numbers to double within the next year.”
Discovery Riders will never turn a student away that is in need of their services and therefore, they subsidize many riders. “A Night To Remember” helps the organization to “close the gap” and continue its worthy mission, Hale said.
Guests are encouraged to purchase their tickets early for priority seating. Tickets are $100 each, or $1,000 for corporate tables. The deadline to order tickets is Saturday, Oct. 9.
