Troopers of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported this morning that the two OVI checkpoints that were conducted Saturday evening were a success, with one OVI arrest at the checkpoint in Russells Point, along with one OVI arrest in the extra saturation patrols conducted around the Bellefontaine checkpoint.
“We consider it a definite success on our end and were happy that we had the opportunity to intercept drunk drivers from our local roadways and to protect other motorists,” Lt. Molly Harris said of the effort that is conducted utilizing federal grant dollars.
“We have a good working relationship with the other law enforcement in Logan County and many other agencies, and were so appreciative that we could come together to conduct the checkpoints. This was a great reason to collaborate and to keep the public safe.”
The first checkpoint took place from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday along Main Street (State Route 366) in Russells Point. Troopers at this location were assisted by the Ohio Deparment of Natural Resources Division of Parks and Watercraft, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Russells Point Police Department and Washington Township Police Department.
The second checkpoint from 10 p.m. to midnight was staged along south Main Street in Bellefontaine. Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department and deputies also assisted with the efforts.
At the Russells Point checkpoint, troopers report Teri L. Nusky, 35, of Fairfield, attempted to drive through the checkpoint, which was lit with flashing cruiser lights, along with a spotlight from the Ohio Department of Transportation. The driver told deputies that she “did not see the checkpoint.”
