David M. Lewis, 35, of 24999 County Road 55, was charged Tuesday with OVI, obstructing official business, possession of drugs and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. He also was served a warrant for failure to appear.
He was cited for no operator’s license, driving under suspension and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol observed a sport utility vehicle turn from westbound Columbus Avenue northbound onto Detroit Street, which is one-way southbound.
He was pulled over on Sandusky Avenue near Pratt Street. He drove across the eastbound lanes and pulled over on the curb.
The officer noted Lewis’ eyes were bloodshot, watery and glossy; his speech was slow at times then fast; and he had burns on his lips commonly found on people who smoke crack cocaine.
Based on the observations, the officer asked Lewis to stay in the vehicle while he returned to his cruiser to ask for backup. Lewis exited the SUV and ran southbound. He fell down a hilly front yard along Garfield Avenue and was arrested.
Two small plastic bags were located where the suspect fell and was lying upon his arrest. Another plastic baggie with traces of white powder was found on the suspect.
Officers believe some of the drugs are methamphetamine and heroin.
Officers noted the suspect rambled on about blood and bodily fluids all over his residence from his ex-girlfriend, and her new boyfriend breaking into his home while he was away.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office checked the residence and found nothing of concern. They will continue to seek out Lewis’ ex-girlfriend whose vehicle was at the residence.
Lewis was arrested and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
