Bellefontaine Fire Department firefighters responded to an early morning house fire about 12:50 a.m. today that displaced residents at a two-story home at 812 Garfield Ave.
Assistant Fire Chief Dwayne Dow reports that the home owned by John Winegardner sustained substantial damage to the second-floor and the first-floor ceiling, with damage estimates of approximately $55,000. The home is rented by tenant
Tim Young, and residents at the home escaped the blaze without injuries.
Firefighters were on the scene for about four hours. All off-duty Bellefontaine firefighters, along with the Huntsville Fire Department also responded to the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it has not been deemed suspicious. The state fire marshal’s office has been called in to assist in the investigation, the assistant chief reported.
The family is being assisted by the Northern Miami Valley Ohio Chapter of the American Red Cross.
