Local diners with a taste for Japanese cuisine have access to fresh sushi rolls and sashimi with the opening of a new downtown Bellefontaine establishment.
Kiyomi Sushi and Steakhouse officially opened its doors last Thursday at 120 W. Columbus Ave., serving the fresh seafood dishes along with a hibachi grill and a selection of other traditional main dishes and appetizers such as tempura, edamame and udon or miso soups.
“Jimmy” Hui Liu, who has operated the House of Szechwan for nearly five years, purchased the former Huber-Buchenroth building a year ago and has added a commercial kitchen and dining area at a total investment of $600,000.
Owner “Jimmy” Hui Liu holds a sashimi deluxe plate inside the Kiyomi Sushi and Steak House restaurant he opened last week at 120 W. Columbus Ave.
His plan is to consolidate the Chinese selection offered at House of Szechwan with the Japanese menu within the month and close the 137 W. Columbus Ave. location by the end of July.
He also has other Asian selections such as the Korean dish bibimbap, which is a mixture of rice, vegetables, sauces, meats and/or an egg, which is mixed together before eating.
“When the House of Szechwan moves here, we will update our menu and let people know,” Hui said. “I want to let people have more choice if they want Asian style food in Bellefontaine so they don’t have to go to another town to eat.”
Sashimi meals and sushi rolls are cut to order from seafood that arrives daily from the Columbus distributor Ocean Seafood, the proprietor said.
