Jonathan A. Mathews, 23, of Thornville, was charged with aggravated drug abuse, trespassing, and public intoxication following an incident early Saturday morning at Kamp-A-Lott, 1888 S. County Road 25, Bellefontaine.
Deputies received a report just after midnight from Mr. Mathews’ mother. She said her son had called her and told her he was in trouble, first stating that he was locked inside the maintenance building at the campground. Then he told her that he was on the roof of the building and that he was being chased.
When deputies arrived and spoke with the campground manager, they located Mr. Mathews on the roof of the maintenance building. The defendant reportedly climbed down from the roof and deputies observed that he showed signs of severe impairment.
He told deputies that he had been chased by people who were trying to rob him. A small empty bottle of liquor was located on his person.
Deputies then responded to Lot 195, where Mr. Mathews had been staying, and spoke with individuals there. They reported that the defendant had been experimenting with LSD.
Mr. Mathews reportedly admitted to taking two doses of LSD that evening. He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
• Shelia K. Bragg, 66, of Columbus, was issued a summons shortly after midnight Sunday following a loud music complaint received at Kamp-A-Lott.
Deputies responded to the complaint at Lot 175 and made contact with Ms. Bragg. They noted the summons was issued following several previously warnings about loud music.
Pair receive summons for littering
Brittany F. McFadden, 28, and Benjamin L. Lusby, 34, both of 245 W. Center St., West Mansfield, each was issued a summons for littering Saturday.
Deputies received a littering complaint July 7 about a vacant property at 235 W. Center St., West Mansfield.
Deputies, along with village officials, and the new property owner, looked through the trash that was dumped and located items with Ms. McFadden’s and Mr. Lusby’s names.
3 injured in rollover crash on U.S. 33
Three Defiance residents were injured, one seriously, when the vehicle they were traveling in crashed about 5:35 p.m. Friday on U.S. Route 33 near State Route 117.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report Nathan T. Miller, 18, was operating an eastbound sport utility vehicle on the entrance ramp from S.R. 117 to U.S. 33 when the vehicle went off the left side of the road, traveled through the median and overturned on U.S. 33.
A passenger in the vehicle, Jon K. Andrew, 27, sustained incapacitating injuries and was flown by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Mr. Miller and another passenger, Eddie Stiles, 16, were transported by BMRT EMS and Bellefontaine Fire and EMS, respectively, to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries.
The driver was cited for failure to maintain control. All occupants were wearing seat belts, and damage to the vehicle was heavy.
• Three adults and two children were transported by squad Friday to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of minor injuries or possible injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash.
Deputies report Michael J. Hilgeforth, 26, of Huntsville, was operating a northbound pickup about 1:50 p.m. on County Road 39 and stopped at the stop sign at State Route 274. He then proceeded into the intersection and struck the left side of a westbound sport utility vehicle operated by Heather M. Kuhlenbeck, 27, of Lakeview.
Both drivers, along with three passengers in the SUV, an adult, a 7-year-old child and an 8-month-old child, were transported by Bellefontaine Fire and EMS and Huntsville EMS to the hospital. All occupants were wearing their seat belts or were restrained in child safety seats, deputies report.
Damage was heavy to both vehicles. Mr. Hilgeforth was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign.
• Samantha Strader, 24, of Lakeview, was transported by Indian Lake EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for possible injuries sustained in a crash about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
Deputies report she was operating a southbound car on State Route 235 near County Road 87 when she slowed in traffic and then her vehicle was struck from behind by a southbound car operated by Tia Hassell of Lakeview.
Ms. Hassell was checked at the scene by BMRT EMS personnel, but was not transported. Two passengers in the Strader vehicle also were checked at the scene.
Damage was light to both vehicles. Ms. Hassell was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.
