Bellefontaine unable to contain Eagles in 19-9 regional semifinal loss
CINCINNATI — Milford sprayed balls all over spacious Marge Schott Stadium here Thursday, leaving a lasting impression on Bellefontaine head baseball coach Art Caudill.
“To see the way they hit the ball up and down the order was pretty amazing,” said Caudill, who saw his team mount a rally before bowing out in a 19-9 five-inning contest in a Division I regional semifinal. “Really, it was a sight to see. There are no soft spots in their lineup. That’s a credit to them.”
Milford (28-2) piled up 14 hits and took advantage of seven Bellefontaine errors.
Good defense had been a staple of Bellefontaine’s run to a district title, but that trend did not continue Thursday.
“That was very untypical for us,” said Caudill. “We have taken a lot of pride in our defense and that was a priority coming into the game. You just can’t give a team like that extra outs because they will make you pay.”
