An unlicensed driver was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle following two separate crashes Monday afternoon that occurred just minutes apart on State Route 47.
Troopers of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol report that the defendant, Anthony Anderson, 26, of West Mansfield, was operating an eastbound jeep about 5 p.m. on S.R. 47 between County Road 25 and Township Road 135.
He reportedly attempted to pass an eastbound vehicle operated by Stacie Coy, 43, of Zanesfield, on the right side when he clipped her right rear bumper, causing light damage to her vehicle. Mr. Anderson then continued to pass her along the ditch line of the roadway.
Ms. Coy did not report any injuries.
Several minutes later on S.R. 47 at State Route 533, Mr. Anderson reportedly was continuing eastbound in the jeep and was attempting to negotiate a curve. At the same time, troopers report he tried to pass another vehicle when he had to slam on his brakes, causing his vehicle to overturn onto its roof. The jeep then slid off the right side of the road and struck a milepost sign.
The defendant was treated at the scene for minor cuts and bruises by Rushcreek EMS personnel.
Troopers observed that he displayed signs of intoxication and the defendant was transported to the Logan County Jail for a blood alcohol content test. He was released to a sober person.
Mr. Anderson also was cited for no operator’s license and failure to control. Troopers were informed by the owner of the jeep that he did not have permission to be operating the vehicle.
