Bellefontaine’s wrestling team competed at the Division I sectional tournament Friday and Saturday at Centerville High School and qualified three individuals to the district level.
The Chieftains saw Gaige Reeves (106), Bryan Ward (120) and Phil Francis (145) advance out of the Centerville I site to the district tournament. The top four in each weight class qualified to the Division I district tournament Friday and Saturday at Kettering Fairmont’s Trent Arena.
The host Elks won the Centerville I sectional title with 196.5 points, Northmont came in second with 183.5 points and Springboro was third with 182.5 points. Bellefontaine finished eighth out of 12 teams with 80 points.
“Our goal was to get three out and we were able to do that,” said BHS head coach Aaron LaBatt. “We missed a few opportunities to get a couple of more guys out, but overall it was a solid weekend for our first time at the Division I level.”
