Selena Weaver has added an impressive final touch to her West Liberty-Salem girls basketball career.
Weaver on Monday was announced as a third-team Division III all-Ohio selection.
“To go from where she was as a freshman to where she finished as a senior was a testament to her work ethic,” said WL-Salem head coach Dennis McIntosh. “She worked hard to become a complete post player.
“I am sure she would be the first to say that if it wasn’t for her teammates, she would never have been able to get to where she is now.”
The senior post player was second in the Ohio Heritage Conference this season in scoring with 16.1 points per game and she finished fourth in rebounding at 10 rebounds per contest.
Weaver, who scored over 1,000 points and pulled down 826 rebounds during her prep career, helped the Tigers to an undefeated regular season.
Weaver was named to the all-OHC first team as both a junior and senior, while earning second-team honors as a sophomore.
“She had a great career for us,” said McIntosh. “She is only the fifth girl in school history to reach 1,000 points and she finished second all-time in rebounding.”
The all-state teams are selected by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association. The Division III player of the year honor went to Zoe Miller of Berlin Hiland and the coach of the year was Ourtney Bryant of Warrensville Heights.
The Division IV all-Ohio team also was announced Monday. Emma Hess of Legacy Christian was named the player of the year and the coach of the year honor went to Waterford’s Jerry Close.
