Head coach Henry Stolly and his assistants are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to get Bellefontaine’s boys basketball team turned around.
The BHS staff has spent the last few days analyzing possible tweaks to a team that has dropped six of its last seven games.
“Changes are always an option when a team is struggling,” said Stolly. “That may be changes to the starting lineup, rotations, schemes, etc. If new roles are assigned, I am confident our players will support and respond to those changes.”
Whether major changes are made or not, the Chiefs are focused on becoming more consistent and cutting out bad stretches.
“We are working on better execution on both the defensive and offensive ends of the floor,” said Stolly. “We are still searching for that extra spark needed to energize our team.”
The Chiefs (5-9, 2-5) will try to get moving in the right direction when they go on the road Friday to face a Kenton Ridge team they lost to earlier this season.
The Cougars (9-8, 2-5) beat Bellefontaine 54-47 on Dec. 18 in Bellefontaine.
“We must defend the dribble drive much better than we did the first meeting with Kenton Ridge,” said Stolly. “They have quick and skilled guard play. During the first game back in December, we were forced to help off perimeter shooters to defend dribble penetration, and they ended up connecting on seven-three point goals. Most of those came from driving and kicking the ball out.”
It has been a roller coaster of a season for the Cougars. After winning their first two games of the season, they followed with a four-game losing streak. That was then followed by a four-game winning streak.
The Cougars come into Friday’s game having lost three out of their last five.
Kenton Ridge has been powered this winter by junior guard Jordan Bailey, who is averaging 16 points per game.
Isaiah Charlton (10 ppg) and Brent Morris (8.1 ppg) have also been main contributors for the Cougars.
