Ben Logan falls to Celina in first round
It was an exciting night for local wrestling fans as Bellefontaine, Benjamin Logan and Indian Lake were all in action at the Division II OHSAA state duals Wednesday at Graham High School.
Celina topped Benjamin Logan 44-27 in the opening round of action. Indian Lake, Bellefontaine and Graham all had first-round byes.
The Bulldogs advanced, but were handled by the Falcons with a perfect 84-0 score.
Bellefontaine rallied to edge Indian Lake 39-38 in the second round. The Chieftains advanced to take on Graham, the defending Division II state dual meet champions. The Falcons, who are ranked third in the nation, dominated the Chiefs 81-0.
Bellefontaine and Indian Lake engaged in a tight dual that came down to the final match. The Chiefs had beaten the Lakers 39-35 earlier this season.
“It was a great dual with Indian Lake,” said BHS head coach Aaron LaBatt. “A finish like that makes it exciting for everyone. We knew Indian Lake would be ready and I knew Ryan (Dickson) would have his guys improved from the last time we faced them.”
“We had a few of our guys not wrestle very well, but we also had a few guys that wrestled better than they have all season. It wasn’t the smartest dual we’ve wrestled, but we showed a lot of toughness and we’re proud of our guys.”
Bellefontaine’s Braden Jacobs celebrates after winning the 285- pound match Wednesday at the OHSAA state duals. His 5-4 victory sealed a 39-38 dual meet win for the Chieftains over Indian Lake.
