Indian Lake’s Tavenner wins pair of events
Bellefontaine’s girls swim team showed off its talent in front of a home crowd Saturday at at the Hilliker YMCA.
The Chieftain girls won the 12-team meet and set a school record in the process. The Lady Chiefs tallied 97 points to easily finish ahead of Springfield (82) and Tippecanoe (73). Springfield Shawnee was fourth (67) and Kenton Ridge took fifth (51).
Ben Logan’s girls also competed and finished 10th with 25 points.
Bellefontaine’s boys finished in sixth place with 33 points. Springfield won the boys meet with 136 points. Tippecanoe (126), Kenton Ridge (81), Stivers (40.5) and Urbana (39.5) rounded out the top five.
Indian Lake’s boys finished seventh with 22 points and Ben Logan was eighth with 12 points.
“I was extremely impressed with the effort of our swimmers,” said BHS head coach Sharon Lewis. “This was a highly competitive event and was close throughout the entire meet. I put some pressure on both teams to finish strong in the 400 free relay in order to improve or hold their overall team places and both the boys and girls responded with season-best swims. Our team also showed some depth with nine girls and four boys scoring throughout the meet.”
