Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect for threatening his relative Sunday afternoon following a traffic stop along west County Road 37 near County Road 130.
James Perk, 26, of DeGraff, was riding in the rear of a vehicle driven by Pamela Smith, 63, also of DeGraff.
The victim contacted deputies by telephone about 3:15 p.m. while she was driving and reported that Perk is her nephew, and he had made a number of threats to harm her, was acting violently and threatened to stab her in the neck with a knife.
Deputies caught up with the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect refused to exit the backseat, and had to be forcibly removed. He threatened to kill his aunt in front of deputies, and was handcuffed.
In a statement to deputies, the victim reported that earlier Sunday she had asked the suspect to feed the cats, and he became enraged, threw a food scoop and hurled expletives at her. She further said that Perk is upset because he was recently let go from his job.
She told deputies the suspect had struck her with a closed fist, and had been threatening her throughout the day.
The victim stated she had a family function to attend, and was attempting to drop Perk off at Mary Rutan Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Perk was charged with aggravated menacing and lodged in Logan County Jail.
Suspect jailed for drug possession
Adam Houchins, 29, of Lakeview, was lodged in jail about 6:20 p.m. Sunday and charged with possession of drugs after suspected Suboxone and methamphetamine were found on his person during an interaction with deputies.
Deputies were dispatched to the area of 175 N. Main St. on a report that the suspect was believed to be looking in windows of neighboring houses.
Deputies interviewed a neighboring resident Jason Davis who reported that Houchins had come to his window asking if a walkie talkie was placed in his house.
While interviewing Houchins, deputies observed him putting his hand in his left pocket. A search of the suspect revealed a pocket knife, a powdered orange substance that Houchins said was Suboxone, and that a clear crystal substance was methamphetamine.
An incandescent light bulb with two pieces of a ballpoint pen sticking out of the end also was found.
The suspect told deputies he has four or five local dealers, but did not want to give up their names.
