The month-long Not So Bad Art by Good People contest culminated Friday evening with an auction of nine pieces, where 10 celebrity artists shared with the community their inspirations behind their creative entries that included paintings, ceramics, woodworking and other mediums.
Logan County Art League President Karen Feltham said the auction at the Bellefontaine VFW generated a total of $1,995 for the non-profit organization.
A seascape created by Huntsville resident Ashley Sloan, with the help of her 5-year-old son, Tyson, received the Highest Bid Award. Her piece was auctioned by auctioneer Steve Eaton for $525.
Krista Harmon won the Popular Vote Award, as she received a total of 205 community votes for her piece featuring raw edge appliqués and numerous handmade details.
“It was a wonderful evening that was lots of fun,” Mrs. Feltham said of the auction. “The Logan County Art League is very thankful to all those who supported the Not So Bad Art By Good People event. The proceeds of this event will be used to advance the visual arts in Logan County.”
The contest returned to the area for the fourth year starting with the selection of artists this past fall, following a one-year hiatus last year. The 10 local celebrity artists spent several months preparing their pieces, and beginning in early January, the nine entries were on display for public voting for $1 per vote at Craft, Paper, Scissors, 142 W. Columbus Ave.
Two years ago, store owner Karen Funderburgh was one of the participants in the 2018 Not So Bad Art By Good People contest.
“We always love seeing the different pieces that the celebrity artists come up with each year,” the art league president said while setting up the display alongside Funderburgh.
“It’s also been a wonderful opportunity for our Logan County Art League artists to mentor and inspire creativity in others in our country, and to let people in the community know a little more about our organization.”
In addition to Sloan and Harmon, this year’s “Not So Bad Artists” who participated included: Carrie Brown, hair stylist at Indian Lake; Justin Dinovo of Citizens Federal Savings & Loan; Allen D. Hadley; Jeramy Fitzpatrick of Brewfontaine and Mackenzie Myers of The Logan County Farmers’ Market and Holland Theatre, who created a joint piece; Pastor Bryan Meadows from the Huntsville United Methodist Church; Vicki Rapp from Mary Rutan Hospital public relations; and Dee Dee Rickets, owner of Me & Company.
