Bellefontaine’s boys basketball team does not possess a lot of height on its roster, making it a challenge when the Chiefs run into teams with big front courts.
Friday’s game at Kenton Ridge will be one of those situations as the Cougars feature 6-7 senior forward Tyler Eberhart and 6-8 senior center Collin Perkins.
Eberhart is averaging 22 points and 15.7 rebounds per game, while Perkins is contributing six points and six rebounds per contest.
“Their height is a concern,” said Bellefontaine head coach Jason Calton. “We have to rebound the basketball better than we have in our first three outings.”
Kenton Ridge opened the season with wins over Springfield Catholic Central (62-40) and Urbana (64-46) before falling to London 69-51 last Friday.
In addition to the talents of Eberhart and Perkins inside, the Cougars have received help from junior wing Michael Severt and junior guard Malcolm McKay. They are both averaging nearly eight points per gam.
Bellefontaine is still looking for its first win. The Chiefs (0-3, 0-1) are coming off a 41-21 loss to Jonathan Alder. BHS made just six baskets in the game.
On the season, Bellefontaine is scoring 47 points while giving up 60 per game.
Turnovers have been one of the biggest issues for Bellefontaine’s inconsistent play on offense.
“It starts with taking care of the basketball,” said Calton. “We have to continue to find the urgency to attack the basket.”
