Bellefontaine’s girls basketball team won its fourth straight game behind a strong defensive effort against Indian Lake on Wednesday.
The Chiefs limited the host Lakers to just eight field goals in a 48-25 victory.
Bellefontaine is now 5-1 on the season, while Indian Lake drops to 2-3.
The Chiefs led 12-8 after one quarter and then began to pull away in the second period. Bellefontaine used a 16-8 run to lead 28-16 at halftime.
Bellefontaine then stretched its lead to 15 points (35-20) after three quarters. The Chiefs wrapped up their win by outscoring the hosts 13-5 in the final period.
Hannah Rader led a balanced Chieftain team with a game-high 17 points. Caitlyn Shumaker contributed 10 points, Lexxi Gorham had eight points and Rylie Fullerton chipped in five points.
Only four players scored for the Lakers. Kaylee Shelton had 10 points, Kayli Barlow scored seven points and Hailey Talbot added five points.
In the junior varsity game, Bellefontaine won 34-27. Katie Pool paced the Chiefs with 14 points. Stephanie Alstaetter led the Lakers with nine points.
Both teams are back in action Saturday. Bellefontaine travels to Jonathan Alder and Indian Lake hosts North Union.
