Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a passenger van crash Tuesday evening that resulted in the transport of at least eight individuals — four by medical helicopter — to area hospitals for treatment of injuries.
Wednesday afternoon, deputies were continuing to investigate the crash that occurred at 6263 N. U.S. Route 68 just north of State Route 638. They said a language barrier and the extent of injuries added to the complexity of the crash investigation, but they were working to identify all of the individuals involved and will release additional information as it is available.
Deputies report an unknown driver was operating a southbound 2004 Ford E-350 passenger van when it traveled over the center line and into the opposite lane of travel. The van then went back across the center line and into the southbound lane and then went off the west side of the road, traveling down an embankment and striking a culvert.
The vehicle rolled over onto its driver’s side and came to a rest in the ditch.
While the identities of the individuals flown by medical helicopter were unavailable, deputies said four individuals were transported by squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Those vehicle occupants include Mama Andre, 38; Similion Antoine, 56; and Dumersier Rinienne, 55, all of Springfield; and Menard Henry, 47, of North Miami, Fla.
Other occupants in the van who reported minor injuries and were not transported from the scene include: Jean C. Pierre, 32, and Marie Jolicoeur, 50, both of Springfield; and Antoine Hielson, 55, and Hendley Emmanuel, 41, addresses unavailable.
Damage was heavy to the van, which was towed from the scene.
Bellefontaine, Bokescreek , Indian Lake, Huntsville and Tri-Valley Fire and Robinaugh EMS personnel were among those assisting at the scene.
