Bellefontaine’s football team continues to reap the rewards of its stellar season this fall.
The Chiefs on Wednesday saw four of their players selected to the Division III all-Ohio squad by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.
Sophomore quarterback Tavien St. Clair received the highest honor as he was a second-team selection.
Earning third-team honors were junior wide receiver C.J. Wilson, senior linebacker Alex Caudill and senior defensive lineman Sullivan Ashcraft.
St. Clair enjoyed one of the best seasons at quarterback in program history. The strong-armed sophomore threw for 2,453 yards and 25 touchdowns against just four interceptions. He completed 71 percent of his passes.
His yardage and touchdown totals are new single-season school records.
St. Clair threw for 200 or more yards five times this season. His crowning moment came in Week 7 against Springfield Shawnee. He was 25-of-29 passing for a school-record 412 yards and seven touchdowns.
St. Clair has already amassed numerous Division I scholarship offers.
Wilson was the favorite target of St. Clair in the Chiefs’ passing attack. The dynamic junior hauled in 68 passes for a school-record 948 yards. He recorded nine touchdown catches.
Caudill and Ashcraft were the cornerstones of a physical Chieftain defense.
Ashcraft, who played all season with a torn ACL, recorded 51 tackles, including 24 solo stops. He had a team-high 17 tackles for loss, one sack, a forced fumble and also picked off a pass.
Caudill made plays all over the field for the Chiefs in his senior campaign. He piled up a team-high 56 solo tackles and had 119 tackles overall. He led the team with 5 1/2 sacks and registered 15 tackles for loss. He also had a team-high three interceptions, returning one for a touchdown.
Led by head coach Jason Brown, Bellefontaine went 8-3 this season, finishing as the co-champions in the Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail division and earning a playoff berth.
