Zanesfield Petanque Club member Shannon Hodge traveled to Port Townsend, Wash., to play in the Federation of Petanque U.S.A. Women’s Triples World Qualifier on Aug. 25-26.
It was a two-day tournament with 11 teams from across the country.
On Saturday, Hodge and partners Tish Harris (California) and Gina Teator (Florida), lost their first two games to rebound with wins of 13-6, 13-3, 13-3.
That put them 3-2 for the day and ranked them third. The top eight teams moved on in the main tournament Sunday.
To start pool play on Sunday, Hodge’s team had wins of 10-8 and 9-8 to move to the semifinal, which they won 13-0. Her team then won the final game 13-4 to make them the 2018 FPUSA Women’s Triples National Champions. They will represent the United State in 2019 at the Women’s World Championship that will be conducted in Cambodia.
