Applications are now being accepted for the 2023-24 Mary Rutan Foundation Community Wellness Grant program, with applications and all required documentation due by midnight Oct. 13
The purpose of the grant program is to foster overall community participation in the promotion and support of a healthier Logan County by addressing areas of risk and need in the community.
During the county’s most recent Community Needs Assessment in 2023, mental health was identified as the highest priority of health risk and need for Logan County youths and adults.
Through the Signs of Suicide screening administered to Logan County students, 21 percent of combined eighth-, 10th-, and 12th-grades indicated having attempted suicide one or more times and 19 percent tested positive for suicide ideation.
To address these concerns, mental health was selected as the focus area for the 2023-2024 Mary Rutan Foundation grant cycle. The program priority will be given to initiatives targeting youths.
“Mary Rutan Foundation is committed to the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve, especially our youths,” stated Tammy Allison, foundation chief operating officer.
“We believe that we can be most successful through targeted initiatives impacting the youth of Logan County to address these mental health concerns. We invite area schools to join us in our pursuit for a healthier Logan County.”
For this cycle, all applicants must be a Logan County school and cannot be a private foundation or not-for-profit. Grant requests may range from $500 to $5,000.
On-line application submission is required and may be obtained on the Mary Rutan Hospital website at https://www.maryrutan.org/forms/community-wellness-grant-application/.
The Mary Rutan Foundation Community Wellness Grant program began in 2014. Since then, more than $320,000 has been awarded to community partners addressing health and wellness needs identified in Logan County. Several of these programs continue in our community today, sustained through new partnerships and funding resources.
