Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office met with a woman at the sheriff’s office at 9 p.m. Thursday, who said she wanted to turn in a wallet she found the previous evening at the Dollar General in Huntsville.
Earlier in the day Thursday, deputies had requested the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects who allegedly were involved in a theft of the wallet and a cell phone Wednesday evening at the business, as reported in the Examiner.
Deputies had responded to the Dollar General, 6793 Lima St., Huntsville, about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday after a woman said she had left the items in a shopping cart. Upon reviewing Dollar General video surveillance, deputies identified a pair of suspects who notice the wallet in the cart and then cover it up with some items in the store. After the suspects finished their shopping, they allegedly left the store with the wallet and phone.
Thursday evening, deputies questioned the woman regarding why she didn’t turn the wallet over to the clerk upon finding it. She said she thought it was best to turn a wallet over to police. Then deputies asked her why it took her about 24 hours to turn in the wallet if that was the case.
Deputies said the investigating deputy would speak to the woman to determine whether any possible enforcement action would be taken. The wallet was returned to the victim by deputies.
