Motorists face OVI charges
Juan Medina Rivero, 29, of 122 N. Main St., was charged Saturday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and cited for a marked lanes violation, speeding and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
An officer on patrol reports he observed Rivero turn southbound onto Main Street from Lake Avenue around 2:25 a.m. Rivero’s sport utility vehicle traveled across a center lane divider for about 75 feet.
He continued to drift about his lane of travel while the officer followed southbound to Gunntown Road.
Rivero then turned eastward and accelerated to 40 mph in a 25-mph zone. A traffic stop was initiated.
An odor of alcohol was detected during interaction with the motorist and he was unsteady on his feet outside the SUV. The officer administered field sobriety tests which indicated Rivero was impaired by alcohol.
Another officer searched the SUV and found a plastic cup with alcohol and an open bottle of rum in the SUV. Rivero reportedly fell asleep en route to the police department. He was awaken and provided a breathalyzer sample of 0.145.
• Tyler D. Carpenter, 27, of Marysville, was charged Sunday with OVI and cited for a marked lanes violation, speeding, failure to signal, weaving, a traffic light violation and no headlights after a 2:25 a.m. traffic stop.
He was observed speeding at 37 mph southbound on Detroit Street at Columbus Avenue in a car without activated lights. At Auburn Avenue, he turned eastbound without signalling and proceeded to Main Street where he stopped past the painted pavement stop bar.
Carpenter continued eastbound when the light turned green but weaved in a jerking manner within the lane before changing lanes over a solid white dividing line.
The officer initiated a traffic stop in the 200 block of east Auburn during which he detected an odor of alcohol while talking with Carpenter. Sobriety tests were conducted and the officer reports the results indicated Carpenter was impaired by something other than alcohol.
His breathalyzer sample was 0.028 and he submitted a urine sample for testing.
