A big first half helped West Liberty-Salem’s girls basketball team race past host Triad 47-14 on Thursday in a local Ohio Heritage Conference matchup.
The Tigers improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the OHC North standings. The Cardinals open their season at 0-1, 0-1.
WL-Salem jumped ahead 11-2 after the opening quarter. The Tigers used a 17-3 run in the second quarter to take a 28-5 halftime advantage.
The pace slowed down in the second half, but WL-Salem maintained control. The Tigers edged the Cardinals 10-6 in the third quarter for a 38-11 lead. WL-S continued to hold off Triad in the fourth quarter.
Selena Weaver sparked WL-Salem on offense with 15 points and eight rebounds, Emily Hollar tallied nine points, four steals and three assists, while Grace Estes and Gabby Williams both had six points.
Cati LeVan paced Triad’s offense with eight points and sister Frani LeVan added four points.
There was no junior varsity game.
Both teams are back in action Saturday for OHC action. WL-Salem hosts Northeastern and Triad travels to nearby Mechanicsburg.
