West Liberty-Salem’s girls state-ranked cross country squad finished fifth out of 17 teams Saturday in a talented field at the Anna Rocket Invitational.
Lakota West won the girls race with 33 points, Cincinnati McAuley came in second with 64 points, Covington was third with 124 points, Wapakoneta was close behind in fourth with 126 points.
WL-Salem, which is ranked 16th in the latest Division III state poll, finished fifth with 152 points.
Benjamin Logan also competed and came in 14th with 389 points and Indian Lake took 15th with 417 points.
“With several Division I schools in the field, this was a good test for us heading into the postseason,” said WL-Salem girls head coach Ann Vogel. “Our top three runners today were freshmen and they showed a lot of composure and focus. There’s always room for improvement, but I like the momentum we have right now.”
