West Liberty-Salem Schools students recently participated in a Community Service Day in October, completing numerous projects to assist their neighbors and local organizations around Logan and Champaign Counties.
The project was organized by the high school counseling department and Principal Greg Johnson Students were able to select the organization or project they felt the most passionate about.
Service projects included cleaning up the road ditches near Wal-Mart in Bellefontaine and the Ohio Caverns, playing bingo and cleaning up the courtyard at Green Hills Community, and organizing and replenishing supplies at Lutheran Community Services and Caring Kitchen.
They painted, picked up trash and organized barns at Lions Park and Urbana City Park, and cleaned up the Champaign County Fairgrounds.
In West Liberty, they prepared the flower beds for fall and raked leaves at Ricketts Park and cleaned the visitation rooms at Adriel. Finally, they were able to help the WL-S kitchen and maintenance departments in checking off some overdue to-do’s.
“Many students shared how it felt good to be out in the community, doing good deeds for many organizations that don’t often have the resources or man power to get things done. We were especially proud to see our students working hard and effectively as a group and truly enjoying themselves,” school officials said.
