Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department seized methamphetamine and crack cocaine in an 8:30 p.m. traffic stop Tuesday, Nov. 1.
Jesse C. Houchins, 41, of 214 Pratt St., Apt. 3, was charged with felony possession of cocaine and felony possession of methamphetamine. He also was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
The department’s K-9 Unit initiated a stop when the officer noted Houshins’ car had just one headlight.
He was instructed to exit the car and acted as if he was hiding something on his person while doing so. He did not consent to a search of him nor car so the officer deployed his canine partner.
The dog, trained to detect narcotics, alerted during a walk around the vehicle.
Other officers arrived on scene and conducted a probable cause search of the car. A container with methamphetamine was found in a driver’s door pocket.
Houchins was arrested and searched, which led to the discovery of a pipe for abusing crack cocaine and a keychain container holding crack cocaine.
Officers also seized his cellular phone.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
