Wilma Katherine Yoder, 97, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at the Green Hills Nursing Center after several years of declining health.
Wilma was born Sept. 20, 1919, in West Liberty, the sixth child of John I. and Katie Yoder.
After graduation from West Liberty High School, she attended Goshen College for two years, receiving a teaching certificate. She taught elementary school for a few years in Champaign County.
On Nov. 22, 1944, she married Roy E. Yoder and they lived on a farm on Mennonite Church Road for many years before moving to West Liberty. Roy passed away in 1994.
She was also preceded in death by six siblings, Louella Ulrich, Mary Vaughn Smith, Dwight Yoder, Marjory Rohrer, Wayne Yoder and Gail Yoder.
Wilma is survived by three sons, Doug (Janette) Yoder of Goshen, Ind., Ron (Cathy) Yoder of Boise, Idaho,, and Jim (Janet) Yoder of West Liberty; eight grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, John Mark Yoder of Colorado.
After her husband’s passing, Wilma moved to a condo at Green Hills and later moved to the Inn. Wilma’s beautiful soprano voice was part of the Yoder Quartet with Roy, Gail and Ruth Ellen Yoder. They sang at weddings, funerals and church service for many years. She was a member of the South Union Mennonite Church her entire life.
A memorial service will be at a later date. Her body has been donated to the Wright State University Medical School.
