Attendees at Thursday’s Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities’ Elected Officials Breakfast were treated to a glimpse of the many activities, vocations and pastimes of LCBDD clients during a video that was presented at the annual event.
The video echoed this year’s theme for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month — “What’s Your Story?” — by providing an in-depth look at clients’ lives.
Keynote breakfast speaker Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities Director John Martin and LCBDD Superintendent Saul Bauer each reflected on the importance of stories for learning about each other.
“We can’t get to know each other unless we share our stories,” Mr. Martin said. “Our stories can be of excitement or can be painful, but they tell about us.”
“Our stories are important and they long to be shared,” Mr. Bauer said. “That’s why social media is so popular today. Stories from each one of us are worthy of attention and are worthy to be told.”
The “What’s Your Story?” video, created by agency employees Kelli Bader and Lisa Davidson, is available on the LCBDD’s Web site, www.logancbdd.org.
A number of clients are featured in various settings, including at their workplace at RTC Industries and in their community employment. The individuals interviewed reported that they enjoy their work and also noted excitedly that they “love pay day.”
