A returning councilman resumed his seat Monday in a regular meeting of the West Liberty Village Council that also featured final approval of pay increases for village employees.
Mike Hostetler was sworn in by Mayor Greg Hostetler. He assumed a vacancy left by Richard Mally, who was elected to council in November, but did not have legal standing to serve on village council because he hadn’t been a resident for at least 12 months before his election.
Mr. Mally’s resignation letter to council was accepted Nov. 23.
Mr. Hostetler will not receive pay for his service to council, because he is currently receiving medical benefits following an injury and extended stay in the hospital that also left him in a neck-stabilizing halo for a time.
An ordinance to increase the pay for village employees passed third-and-final-reading. As previously reported, Fire Chief Conrad Hostetler will earn $32,000 per year. Street superintendent Phil Holycross will be paid $44,500 per year. Police Chief Shane Oelker’s salary was set at $50,000.
