Benjamin Logan standout Sydney Wesson fired a new course record of 68 to win the Wendy’s Junior Championship Wednesday at Liberty Hills Golf Club. A senior this fall, Wesson finished two under to break a 21-year old mark and take the girls 14-18 age championship.
It was a local battle in the girls 14-18 age group, led by Wesson who finished ninth at the Division II state golf meet last fall. Bellefontaine’s Kayla Watkins was runner-up with a 76, Indian Lake’s Regan Ross took third with an 84, while Bellefontaine’s Madison Taylor tied with Zoey Merritt with 85s. Rounding out the group were Annabelle Odle in sixth with a 99, Emily Taylor in seventh with a 101, Alexis Buffkin in eighth with a 103 and Maria McIntosh in ninth with a 112.
Graham’s Mason Huffman won the boys 16-18 championship over Indian Lake’s Lane McPherson 72-76. Dublin Jerome’s Luke Burnside came in third with an 82. Eric Goddard was a close fourth with an 84, Brent Case took fifth with a 94 and Carson McKenzie was sixth with a 108.
Dublin Jerome’s Tyler Burnside held off Urbana’s Grant Woodruff 74-77 to claim the boys 13-15 championship. Marysville’s Colten Montgomery rounded out the top three with an 80. Making up the rest of the field were Patrick James II in fourth with an 86, Gus Ward in fifth with a 97, Tyler Michael in sixth with a 98, Nate Davis in seventh with a 111 and Rory Price in eighth with a 115.
In girls 11-13, Marysville’s Allee Forrider took top honors with a 42, Marysville’s Ava Jackson was runner-up with a 44 and Columbus Northland’s Thandiwe Reynolds was third with a 63. Coming in fourth was Gillian Steele with a 69.
A tight battle in the boys 11-12 age group saw Bellefontaine’s Liam Naumann edge West Liberty-Salem’s Tanner Myers 113-114 to take first. Bellefontaine’s Noah Smith finished third with a 118. Rounding out the field were Carson Kennedy in fourth with a 120, Malcolm Reynold took fifth with a 129 and Caleb Gantz was sixth with a 135.
Ben Logan’s Paysley Wesson won the girls 10-and-under championship with a 45. Bellefontaine’s Arianna Rumer was second with a 69 and Indian Lake’s Adriana Andrus took third with a 71.
In the boys 10-and-under group, Bellefontaine’s Drake Peterson won with a 34, Bellefontaine’s Keaton Dinovo was runner-up with a 45 and Bellefontaine’s Caleb Arbogast was third with a 56.
