High winds in excess of 50 mph blew through the area Sunday, knocking out power, downing trees and causing wires to arc across Logan County.
No serious accidents or injuries were reported as a result of the damaging winds, which gusted to well over 60 mph at times, especially midday.
Still, power outages were reported starting around 8 a.m. and continued until after nightfall. Logan County Electric Cooperative reported snapped and leaning power lines that caused an outage in the area of south County Road 5 near County Road 1 about 8:30 p.m.
Portions of multiple local streets, county roads and state routes were closed for a time throughout the day as first responders from several departments were dispatched to reports of low-hanging wires, leaning utility poles and/or fallen debris in the roadway.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington extended its high wind advisory until after midnight, and winds remained gusty through this morning as an eastward passing cold front caused temperatures to drop into the low teens at sunrise.
