Driver Christopher Simmerson, 50, and his passenger Tammy Welti, 50, both of Muskegon, Mich., each were lodged in the Logan County Jail following a traffic stop Friday afternoon.
Welti was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and Simmerson was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, officers of the Washington Township Police Department report.
About 1 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle driven by Simmerson for a marked lanes and following too close violation on U.S. Route 33 near Township Road 95. Upon making contact with the occupants, Simmerson stated there was marijuana inside of Welti’s purse.
A probable cause search was conducted. Inside of Welti’s purse, marijuana and a loaded 9 mm handgun were recovered, officers said. Inside of a medication bottle belonging to Simmerson , oxycodone was located which he did not have a prescription for.
Troopers of the Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted at the scene.
• Angela Klinker, 39, of Lakeview, was charged with a felony count of identity fraud during a traffic stop Friday evening.
Officers on patrol on U.S. Route 33 west of Russells Point about 9:10 p.m. observed a vehicle traveling the roadway with equipment violations. Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The driver, Klinker, gave officers her Social Security number and the physical description did not match the physical appearance of the person officers were in contact with. When asked what her birth date was, the female driver also advised officers she couldn’t remember.
Officers then inquired if vehicle the female driver was driving belonged to her, which she advised it did. However, the registration came back to an individual whose physical description did not match the driver’s, officers said.
A search of the vehicle was conducted. Officers located a purse on the driver’s seat and inside the purse, there was an ID of the female driver identified as Klinker. Officers said Klinker had an active felony warrant for her arrest.
K9 Bruno was called to the scene and alerted to the vehicle. Klinker was transported to Logan County Jail.
