Shady Bowl Speedway fans were treated to some of the closest racing of the season as the track also paid tribute to Sidney resident Wayne Watercutter.

Watercutter and his wife Gloria were both in attendance. Wayne had success nearly everywhere he raced. He ventured out to the ARCA and NASCAR series and raced across the country. He hung up his helmet five years ago and now helps younger drivers get started.
The 40-lap ‘Waco’ Wayne Watercutter tribute race was the first event of the evening. Fast qualifier Don Mahaffey Jr. took control early and went on to earn his fourth win of the season. Buddy Townsend came in second, Rich Gleason was third, Brian Fries took fourth and Jesse Gade finished fifth. Mahaffey powered his late model to the hard charger award.
