Wayne Lee McKeen, 68, of West Liberty, formerly of Zanesfield and raised in Belmont, gained his wings after a tragic automobile accident July 27, 2018.
He was the son of Mildred Green McKeen and Roy McKeen who will be awaiting his arrival at Heaven’s Gate along with his brothers, Dale and Roger; and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Evelyn.
Wayne is survived by his loving family, daughter Shannon (Nathan) Batchelder; son, Shaun (Mindy) Smith; grandchildren, Jazmine “Jazi,” Jourdain, Jalynn, Wyatt, Aeva and Jaxxsyn; sister, Janet (Bob) Kocher; and brother, Larry (Karen) McKeen.
Wayne was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, husband and friend.
Graduating in 1968 from Union Local High School, Wayne went to work at Console Coal and was a member of the UMWA Local He most recently retired from Trucco Construction, where he loved working as a heavy equipment operator.
Wayne was a member of the North Main Church of Christ in Bethesda.
On Aug. 4, 2010, he married Barb Metz, who survives.
Wayne most enjoyed time spent with his daughter, grandchildren, family and the many friends who became an extended family to him, and discussing work with his son and son-in-law. He loved family dinner nights, going out to eat, making trips “down home” sitting on the porch drinking coffee watching the sunrise with his niece, Sandy, and sitting out by a fire with a cold “Bud bottle.”
He had recently attended Shadow Box Live in Columbus which he so enjoyed. He was laughing the kind of laugh that comes straight from your belly. Anyone who knew Wayne knew of his love for music. We all knew where he was by where the music was coming from. He was looking forward to attending Nights Under Fire in just a couple of weeks with his family. He had the most contagious smile and laugh.
Wayne’s wishes were to be cremated with no traditional services, so family and friends will gather for a celebration of Wayne’s life.
Wayne will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
