Suspected methamphetamine was recovered by officers of the Washington Township Police Department following a traffic stop executed about 3 p.m. Friday in the area of Russells Point.
Officers on patrol along U.S. Route 33 just west of the village observed a tan minivan with license plates that returned to a green pickup truck out of Alger.
A traffic stop was conducted and upon making contact officers learned the vehicle was being operated by a suspended driver. A consent search of the vehicle was conducted and officers discovered a small cut straw and a small bag containing the suspected methamphetamine.
The drug was located within a collection of tissues inside a handbag belonging to a rear passenger, Melanie Harker, 47, of Alger.
Harker denied any knowledge of the drug and was placed under arrest. She was transported to the Logan County Jail and charged with felony drug possession.
• Jason Hutchinson, 39 of Columbus, was charged with possession of drugs, driving under suspension and for vehicle equipment violations following a 10:20 p.m. Saturday traffic stop in the area of U.S. Route 33 and Township Road 94.
Officers on patrol in that area stopped the vehicle Hutchinson was driving because it had only one funtioning headlight.
Signs of drug use were obsereved upon making contact with the driver. Hutchinson consented to a search of his vehicle, and suspected methamphetamine was located in the center console. He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
