Man lodged for taking van
Anthony R. Flowers, 34, of 629 N. Main St., was charged Saturday with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and felony possession of methamphetamine.
Christeina V. Borghese, of the same address, told officers her boyfriend, Flowers, had taken her van without permission around 10 p.m. Friday and stole her cellular phone and two credit cards.
She believed he would return by morning but came to police when he did not return.
Officers called Borghese’s phone and Flowers answered it but would not talk. Instead, he turned up the radio volume in the van. By 10 a.m., Flowers had parked the van in an alley behind Borghese’s residence and walked off.
He was soon spotted, taken into custody and lodged in jail. A small plastic baggie with methamphetamine was found inside a pack of cigarettes he was carrying.
The van, cell phone and credit cards were returned to Borghese.
Motorist charged with OVI
Kevin M. Leach, 42, of Whitehall, was charged Saturday with felony possession of drugs and misdemeanor counts of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs after a 10:55 traffic stop. He also was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and marijuana drug paraphernalia and issued traffic citations for multiple driving under suspension violations and a window tint violation.
A motorist alerted authorities to a reckless motorist in a westbound car and an officer stationed himself in the 1000 block of Garfield Avenue to intercept the motorist.
A traffic stop was conducted at Garfield and Pratt Street after the officer observed the car’s window tint appeared to be too dark.
Upon contact, the officer noted a strong smell of raw marijuana coming from the car’s interior. The officer also noted orange and white powder inside the driver’s right nostril.
Leach also had extremely dilated eyes and jerked as he moved, the officer reported. The motorist’s speech was slurred and raspy, according to the incident report.
A passenger in the car told officers Leach took prescription medication from her purse while they were at a gas station northwest of the city. She believes he then went to bathroom, crushed the pills and inhaled the dust.
Officers noted crushed pill residue on his T-shirt. A small amount of marijuana and a pipe for smoking it was found in his clothing.
He was arrested and lodged in jail.
