Ed Wallace liked reading about two things — Ohio State University and how to run a good board of directors.
Needless to say, the new Little Library dedicated in honor of the late community leader has a Buckeyes theme, his widow Cathy and son Nick said during an unveiling event Saturday morning outside the Hoffman Municipal Swimming Pool, 525 E. Williams Ave., Bellefontaine.
Ed Wallace, who died Aug. 11, 2016, was president of the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District board for many years, was a former director of the Logan County Area Chamber of Commerce and served as the video filmer of the Bellefontaine High School football games, among numerous other community service roles.
But his big passion was OSU, and in 21 years, he never missed a home Buckeyes football game.
“This is a great way to give back to the community through literacy,” Nick Wallace said, noting that he was approached by Kelli Bader, adviser of the Aktion Club that initiated the Little Library concept, while they were rehearsing for The Producers musical.
“We were already thinking about what we wanted to do to celebrate his life on the one year anniversary and this seemed like a perfect way,” Nick added. “When we started thinking about what kinds of books he liked to read, the only thing we could think of was Ohio State books.”
