Victor LeRoy Metz, 89, of De Graff, passed away, Friday, June 30, 2017, in his home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1927, the son of Roy O. and Laura Schumann Metz, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Metz served his country in the United States Army during WWII stationed in Guam. On June 12, 1949, he married the love of his life, Janice Olive Sprague, who died March 11, 2012. Together they raised four children, Vickie (Robert) Wagner of Three Oaks, Mich., Cindy (Doug) Wilson of West Liberty, Melvin (Susan) Metz of Sidney and Todd (Glenda) Metz of Charlotte, Mich. Vic had eight grandchildren, Brad, Danny, Nicky, Michael, Heather, Betty, Alan and Grace; five great-grandchildren, Samantha, Victoria, Jayden, Brenen and Abigail; and a great-great-grandson, Beau.
He is preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Ambos and Martha Metz; a sister-in-law, Margie Sprague; and brothers-in-law, Don Ambos and Ronald Sprague.
Before relocating to Michigan and then De Graff, Mr. Metz was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and a dairy and grain farmer in Botkins as well as a driver for Provico Feeds and Pence & Potter Milk Transport. Vic enjoyed hard work, playing cards, relaxing and laughing with friends, and most of all, his family.
A gathering of family and friends begins at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 6, in the Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana, where funeral services follow at noon with the Rev. Charla Grieves officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
