URBANA — Deputies of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office have identified the four people claimed in a two-vehicle fatal crash Saturday evening in the 3100 block of south U.S. Route 68 in Champaign County.
Deputies said the four occupants of a 2002 Suzuki sport utility vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene were Robert T. Whitt, 24; Timothy J. Whitt, 31, Amber N. Whitt, 33, and Immanuel J. Burchnell, 13, all of Springfield.
The driver and an occupant of the Suzuki SUV were transported by Mechanicsburg EMS to Urbana Hospital for treatment of their injuries. An additional occupant of the Suzuki SUV was flown by CareFlight helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Dayton.
The sheriff’s office identified the injured occupants as Mindy Scott, 26; Christiana Burchnell, 11; and Zachariah Billingsley, 1, all of Springfield.
Occupants of the second vehicle, a 2021 Toyota Highlander, were Richard Snyder, 63, and Debra Snyder, 65, Urbana. They were transported to an area hospital by Urbana Fire/EMS for treatment of their injuries.
At approximately 7:07 p.m., the Champaign County Communications Center received a 911 call of a two-vehicle traffic crash. Deputies and the Urbana Fire/EMS Division immediately responded to the scene.
Deputies said the 2002 Suzuki SUV crossed the center line into the northbound lane of travel and there was a head-on collision with the northbound 2021 Toyota Highlander.
Champaign County deputies began the investigation and additionally, the Multi-County Crash Investigation Team was also called to the scene to assist. The crash remains under investigation by Champaign County deputies and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office.
