Deputies of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office identified Monday afternoon the victim claimed in a fatal crash involving an Amish buggy and a sport utility vehicle Friday evening on State Route 47 at the Logan and Shelby County line.
Sarah Schwartz, 23, of Maplewood, a passenger in the buggy, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 9:11 p.m. crash.

Dispatchers of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office had no official information to release at press time Friday but witnesses and local first responders report at least one member of an Amish family died in the crash and several others were injured. The driver of the SUV reportedly fled on foot and a suspect was located nearby and taken into custody, according to radio traffic. The crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. on State Route 47 almost exactly at the county line. Squads and fire apparatus from Quincy, DeGraff, Indian Lake, Bellefontaine and Robinaugh Ambulance Service were on scene along with deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and troopers of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Other buggy occupants who were critically injured include Henry Schwartz, 26, who was transported by squad to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney and then was transferred to Miami Valley Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.
Children Ester Schwartz, four months, and Elmer Schwartz, 18 months, were transported from the scene via CareFlight to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where both were listed in critical condition.

Steve E. Hunter, 42, of Sidney, was operating a westbound SUV on State Route 47 and struck the westbound horse-drawn buggy.
Hunter appeared in Sidney Municipal Court on Monday morning on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated vehicular homicide and a third-degree felony failure to stop after a crash. He was being held on $150,000 bond awaiting a preliminary hearing on May 1.
All buggy occupants were ejected.
The crash remains under investigation, authorities said.

SIDNEY, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say an Amish buggy has been struck from behind in Ohio, killing a woman and critically injuring a man and two infants.

Sheriff Lt. Tim Bender says the four were members of the same family. Their names haven’t been released.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the buggy fled on foot after the accident and was arrested a mile from the scene.
