To recognize Veterans Day coming up later this week, the Bellefontaine Rotary Club hosted Logan County Vets to D.C. organizer Scott Stewart, along with local veterans Curtis Fry and Marion Enoch, during their Monday meeting at the Hilliker YMCA.
Stewart shared that the next and possibly final Vets to D.C. trip is planned for Sept. 22-24, 2023.
“World War II and Korean War veterans are dwindling in numbers,” he said.
Fry and Enoch are both Vietnam Vets who went on the 2019 Logan County Vets to D.C. trip and stayed on as volunteers to assist with other trips.
A Riverside High School Class of 1968 graduate, Fry served in Vietnam in 1969 and 1970. His 29 years of service included service in the U.S. Marine Corps, and Marine Corps Reserve in Lima, and the Army Reserve.
Enoch is a BHS Alum of the Class of 1965. He is second generation U.S. Navy, joining at the age of 17 and worked as an Electrician’s mate. He currently drives for Robinaugh EMS after retiring with 38 years at DAB.
“When the flag goes up, I go up,” said Enoch.
An emotionally-invested Stewart said, “It is so special for the Vietnam men who didn’t get a welcome home to experience this trip. It’s a life changer.”
